Desai, former Chair and now Senior Fellow of the Committee on Global Thought at Columbia University, presented the book to an audience of colleagues, scholars, and members of the Columbia community. The volume grew out of a decade in which protest movements, debates over restitution, and demands for more equitable representation fundamentally changed how art is made, shown, and understood. Drawing on voices from across the art world, including artists, scholars, activists, and museum professionals, the book traces those shifts as they played out from the streets of Chile and Iran to institutions across Europe and the United States.
