Each annual report for the Committee on Global Thought highlights signature research projects, programming, academics, and activities that have occurred during the year, as well as initiatives that extend the range of global thought at Columbia and around the world.


 

Annual Report 2023-2024

2023–2024 was a challenging year for the university, one that reaffirmed what CGT has always stood for: fostering dialogue on the issues that shape our world. We welcomed 37 MA students from 22 countries and held panel talks and reading groups bringing faculty and committee members together.

Our research moved forward on several fronts. Youth in a Changing World engaged over 400 young people across nationalities in conversations about their lives, aspirations, and experiences. Politics of Memory in a Global Context deepened our inquiry into how global forces shape culture and collective life.

Annual Report 2022-2023

The academic year 2022–2023 was one of renewal. Emerging from two years of Covid, CGT found itself looking at the global through a newer lens. It was also our strongest year for student enrollment since inception, with students representing 26 nationalities.

We launched two new programs. Global Thought Scholars brought together undergraduates from across the University, while Global Thought Leaders opened the conversation to professionals exploring climate change, inequality, and a shifting world order. We are also now part of Columbia Global, marking a new chapter for the committee.
